Co-location & Managed Hosting Services

At Continent 8, we are focused on the provision of managed hosting and additional services for e-business and the online gaming markets. Our customers will benefit from our continued investment in advanced data centres, high quality networks and online technologies.

Managed hosting requires a considerable amount of resources – hardware, software, networks, and skilled people – to manage a successful business over the Internet. Businesses are constantly challenged to keep abreast of emerging technologies, maintain adequate staffing, and ensure reliable operations. Unless hosting complex systems is a core competency of the assigned technical staff and the designated facilities are complete with state-of-the-art power and cooling utilities, security systems, and network connectivity, companies may compromise the investment made in developing an online business.

Continent 8 is focused on the following key areas as it strives to offer industry leading products and services:

Reliability – this is Continent 8’s number one priority in the area of hosting services. In addition to preventative measures, Continent 8’s monitoring, problem resolution, redundancy and escalation services are the core of Continent 8 operations.

Connectivity and Performance – these are ensured by direct connectivity into multiple global networks. The redundancy ensures that your site is always available.

Security – this is achieved with advanced physical, network, and procedural security in the data centre and on the servers.

Service and Support – these are delivered by our expert technical staff. Continent 8’s experience enables us to support your hosting solution and ensure the best quality response.

Scalability and Flexibility – these are part of the Continent 8 offering. Your hosted solution grows with your organisation. Continent 8’s network architecture of unconstrained bandwidth ensures expandable bandwidth.

Telecommunications

The Continent 8 backbone comprises multiple 2.5 Gbps connections routed to various carriers from the data centre in Kahnawake. In addition, there is a 2.5 Gbps link directly to London. Continent 8 peers with some of the world’s largest Tier 1 Internet networks. Continent 8 is carrier neutral and provides multiple choices from diverse fibre providers allowing redundant fibre connections out to the Internet. Fibre from these diverse vendors is routed via diverse physical paths into our network. In this way, we eliminate any single point of failure between our centre and the Internet.

Continent 8 has arranged private peering agreements with the major Tier-1 backbone providers in both North America and Europe. Private peering agreements are unlike public peering through exchanges such as LINX or transit agreements in that they offer superior connectivity to the respective Tier-1 backbones in the areas of traffic contention and available bandwidth.

Available bandwidth

Continent 8, as mentioned already, has in excess of 10 Gbps connected to various carriers from its data centre in Kahnawake. In addition to being able to meet the daily needs of our customer base, Continent 8 has the overhead bandwidth necessary to counteract undesirable DDoS attacks. Customers can take increments of bandwidth from as low as 1 Mbps up to multi-Gbps.

Our private grid

As we expand our data centre footprint internationally, Continent 8 is gradually increasing its private grid, an international private network that spans the continents. The first links of this are in place and link the Kahnawake facility to London at 2.5 Gbps speed. From there, we have existing links to our new facility in the Isle of Man, thus allowing customers the ability to provide for disaster recovery and data replication services among others. We will similarly be linking in our centre in Singapore.
