launched the next step in a series of events aimed at assisting entrepreneurs to gain backing; this time focused on those based on the Isle of Man.
Entrants are being sought for a
challenge that will aim to identify the brightest new business ideas on the Island and in turn seek to assist in taking these ideas to the next level.
Steve Hawkins Founder of Siliconiom, who launched the challenge said: “This opportunity has elements of Dragons Den and The Apprentice. Entrants will go through a two stage judging process culminating in the winning entrant pitching to a large audience of potential backers at one of our regular supper events on 19th May.”
“An increasing number of entrepreneurs are becoming aware that the Island offers a unique proposition to start-up and early stage businesses. With the support of our sponsors, we want to extend the opportunities to island based entrepreneurs.”
Siliconiom have hosted events locally for the past two years, that connect early stage and start-up businesses with mentors, NED’s and backers alike. Its founders Charlotte Mason and Steve Hawkins, successful entrepreneurs themselves, have considerable experience in the start-up arena. They have been able to facilitate a high number of successes across different business sectors including Technology, Bio-Med and Manufacturing.
Charlotte explained further: “We are keen to highlight that this challenge is open to entrepreneurs of all ages and business sectors. If you are setting out on your first steps in business or are an established company looking for the opportunity to pitch for further support, then this could be for you. For the successful entrepreneur there is an exciting and valuable business support package on offer from the sponsors”.
Kevin Cowley, tax partner at PwC said: “In this tough economic climate it is difficult starting out on your first business venture or trying to raise funds to take your business to the next level, hopefully this Challenge will provide one of our local entrepreneurs with the kick start they need for success.”
